I'm sure we can all remember when we were in high school and there was that certain person that we saw for the very first time and our hormones and hearts began to flutter. Since the beginning of the written word, in pictographs and hieroglyphics even, there has always been the image of lust, and passion, and love. With this in mind, I wanted to share a few of the great love poems of the 21st Century that always catch me off guard and never fail to make me swoon for both poetry and in love for my own sweet dearest.
I think of these poems (links included) as some of my favorite love poems from the prior century, some classics and some much newer:
[i carry your heart with me(i carry it in] by E E Cummings
After Making Love in Winter by Sharon Olds
What Work Is by Philip Levine
After Making Love We Hear Footsteps by Galway Kinnell
As I Walked Out One Evening by W. H. Auden
Aedh Wishes for the Cloths of Heaven by W. B. Yeats
Separation by W.S. Merwin
Sonnet XVII by Pablo Neruda
The Hug by Thom Gunn
The Quiet World by Jeffrey McDaniel
Happy Valentines Day to you all!
